WHY WE LOVE IT

Give yourselves permission to sleep late, sit around all morning, have lunch, then go to the beach until the sky is tinged with a peach and pink sunset, then come home to someone else cooking in the kitchen. By the time you are down from your shower the table will be set and a chilled bottle of prosecco opened and ready for you. Or choose otherwise. Isn't this why we choose villa travel in Italy?

What To Do

  • We hope you will walk to Capalbio, a charming medieval hill-town just 1.5 kms up the road. You can dine, shop and hang out with the locals. Be sure to walk the ramparts -- reached up a couple of convenient staircases - for a truly amazing 360 degree view of Maremma.
  • I Giardini dei Tarocchi is an absolute must for anyone with children or the young-at-heart. A perfect after-lunch excursion from La Pinciana.
  • The two best beaches are within 10 minutes by car; La Dogana and L'Ultima Spiaggia. Great fun for children who make friends with others on the beaches. Come in the evening as well.
  • For exploring you can visit the hill towns of Pitigliano, Scansano (of Morellino fame) and Mangiano with its nearby Roman baths of Saturnia. Stroll the harbors of Porto Ercole and Porto Santo Stefano, share the passegiata with the locals in Orbetello.
  • You may just luck out and enjoy a truly immersive experience of the grape harvest or 'vendemmia'. La Pinciana is a working winery and guests are welcome to observe and learn about the process of making wine.
  • This is fabulous countryside for road bikers. Guided excursions can be arranged to include a stop for lunch.

  • The ancient Roman sulfur baths at Saturnia are still rich with health-giving properties and make a superb day-trip. There are also 'wild' thermal springs to explore on your own.
  • Take the train from Capalbio to Rome for a day of big-city cultural immersion.
  • Hikes in the Parco dell'Uccellina are a must for outdoorsy types. Good riders can have a 'day in the life of' experience with the 'butteri' or Maremmana cowboys.
  • Ferries to the Tuscan Archipelago give you a chance to get out on the water and visit the pristine islands of Giglio and Giannutri (reservations required). Or take a private boat from Cala Galera with your own skipper.
  • This is the land of the ancient Etruscans Explore the ruins of this highly evolved culture at Tarquinia. There are also ruins in Sorana and Sovana.
